Box Clever - Advice on buying Boxes & Bubbles

Cardboard boxes Supplier - Box Clever

Here are just a few tips for when you come to buy cardboard boxes – ok, it’s not an exact science but there are, believe it or not, quite a few things to think about before you buy cardboard packaging boxes. Hopefully these tips will save you a lot of time, effort (and annoyance). So, when looking to purchase cardboard removal or cardboard storage boxes, always;

Cardboard Box Quality and Safety

  • Look at the quality of the packing boxes. Double-walled cardboard boxes are stronger than single-walled cardboard boxes. Their extra strength allows them to be stacked on top of each other in your removal van or storage unit without collapsing, keeping your valuables safe. And it’s economical to be able to use cardboard boxes more than once.
  • Consider the safety issue (yes, cardboard boxes have safety issues too). All cardboard removal and storage boxes will be either glued or stapled. Cardboard boxes that are stapled are not ideal if you are planning to let the kids (or pets) play around with them after you’ve finished. Glued removal and storage boxes will cause less harm.

Cardboard Box Sizes and Packing

  • Definitely check the sizes of the cardboard boxes you’re buying. A lot of companies will offer cardboard box packs that seem attractive at first because of the quantity of boxes you get. They won’t seem nearly so attractive however, when you find that all you can fit in each box is a pair of shoes.
  • Don’t overfill your packing boxes – mix heavy and light items where you can (with the lighter items on top). Getting all your hardbacks into a Tea Chest sized box is a great accomplishment, but then try picking it up and you’ll see what we mean.
  • Make sure that any removal boxes you order go through a standard UK door frame(about 70cm/27.5 inches). It would be a shame to fill a packing box which then has to be tipped over at an angle to get it out of the house, spilling all the contents on the way.
  • Make sure you have plenty of parcel tape. All cardboard boxes will come flat packed and so it’s frustrating trying to close them with sellotape. A tape gun will also make your life so much easier – there’s only so much you can take of cutting tape with your teeth and getting it stuck to your fingers.

And finally

  • Watch out for companies that withhold the VAT from their packaging products until you come to checkout. This makes their removal and storage products far more attractive until you come to punch in your credit card number and then all of a sudden the product prices seem to have grown. Indeed they will have, by about 17.5%.
